Kenneth J. Smetana died peacefully on Monday, June 19th, 2017, in South Amboy, NJ. He was 71.

Services are under the care and direction of Kurzawa Funeral Home, 338 Main Street in South Amboy.

Kenneth was born in Perth Amboy to the late Joseph and Anna Smetana and resided in Morgan for the last 44 years. He was a graduate of Perth Amboy High School and later attended NCE for engineering. Kenneth served our country in the Vietnam War for the Army as a AUS Armor and left the service as an E4. He married the love of his life, Mary Ann Gabel Smetana and they were married just shy of 45 years. In his professional career, Kenneth worked for Carborundum for 33 ½ years, then owned his own courier business before retirement. He was a proud member of the Knights of Columbus, Council 426 in South Amboy as a 3rd degree member and an active parishioner of Sacred Heart Church for 44 years. In his free time he loved bowling, fishing, crabbing, bike riding, photography, computer repair and watching his Mets play baseball or Giants beat the Patriots.

He is survived by his wife, Mary Ann, son, Kenneth E Smetana and wife Nancy, daughters, Julie Ann Renode and husband Robert J III, Stephanie Parse and husband Michael, 8 grandchildren, Robert J IV, Kayla, Anastasia, Olivia, Elizabeth, Savannah, Aaliyah and Mariah, mother in law, Julia Gabel, sister in law Diane Clayton, husband Bob, sister Jean Gulyas and many nieces and nephews.

Kenneth was preceded in death by his parents, Joseph and Anna Smetana, father in law, Edward A Gabel, uncle John Maslak, aunt, Florence Maslak, brother, Joseph Smetana and sister in law, Rose Smetana and brother in law Joseph Gulyas.

A Funeral Mass of Christian burial will be offered on Friday, June 23, 2017 starting at the funeral home at 9am followed by 9:30am at Sacred Heart Church, South Amboy with interment to follow at Sacred Heart Cemetery, Parlin. Visiting hours will be held on Thursday, June 22, 2017 from 4-8pm at Kurzawa Funeral Home.
